Job Title: Director of Youth Ministry

This position is supervised by: Rev. Christy Lipscomb

The goal of this position: to lead 6th-12th graders in spiritual formation, and to carry out the needed leadership and administrative tasks for City Life’s youth ministry.

The time required per week (including youth group program time) to accomplish this job: approximately 8-10 hours.

General leadership qualifications:

  • Disciple of Jesus, pursuing a vital, life-giving relationship with Christ
  • City Life Church is home church (regular attendance, regular tithing, regular service)
  • Fully supports the mission, vision and core practices of the church
  • Ability to navigate cross-cultural conversations
  • Participates in required meetings, including:
    • Tactical Team meetings (Third Monday of the month, 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.)
    • Regular meetings with Supervising Pastor (1-2 times per month)
    • Attend Winter Leadership Retreat (Friday night and all day Saturday in February)
    • Whole Team leadership development event (usually Global Leadership Summit or CCDA)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage personal life and healthy boundaries


Specific Tasks:

  • Support vision, leadership, and spiritual tone for the Element teens and adult volunteers
  • Lead a multiethnic group of teens with excellent cultural awareness, especially in the area of race
  • Lead Sunday night youth group experience
    • Develop teaching plan/choose a curriculum in conjunction with supervising pastor
  • Plan occasional activities
  • Lead team of adult volunteers
    • Contribute to a sense of camaraderie and fun in ministry among adult volunteers
  • Work with supervising pastor to plan key events such as: camp, youth conferences, and mission trips.
  • Hold fundraisers and organize scholarships as needed
  • Be intentional about connecting with new teens on Sunday mornings. Be present between first and second service to catch teens in both services.
  • Ability to communicate with and navigate parent relationships
  • Potentially oversee development of the teen band
  • Consider potential outreach in neighborhoods, including University Prep Academy
