Summer Internship Youth and Childrens

Wakeshma Community Church Summer Internship

Wakeshma Community Church desires to train and make use of a part-time summer intern within the fields of student and children’s ministry. The intern will come alongside the pastor overseeing these ministries to observe and advance their effectiveness. The intern will have unique experiential opportunities in a hands-on environment to further understand the day-to-day operations of church ministry, the formulation of ministry goals and their execution, and the importance of dependence on the Holy Spirit’s leading. The hope is that this internship will further prepare the individual for future church ministry, shed further light on their spiritual gifts and calling, and equip them with tools for ministerial success.

• Spiritual Maturity—The intern should have a progressively growing walk with the Lord

Jesus Christ. They should also have a sense and desire to one day enter into full-time

Christian service or ministry.

• Education—The intern should currently be attending (or recently finished) formal theological

training in either an undergraduate Bible college or seminary.

Job Objective

• To serve, lead, teach, mentor, and motivate the students and children of Wakeshma Community Church in their walk with God (Titus 2:7-8).

• Lead worship at youth gatherings and participate with the Sunday morning worship team

as talent allows.

• Be given a well-rounded, “hands on” practical experience in many areas of student ministry and children’s ministry as well as other ministries of the church.

• Further decipher their ministry passions, gifts, and calling by exposure to various aspects of

pastoral ministry.

• Work no more than 30 hours / week in the ministry of the church (office hours are flexible).

• Attend all pastoral/staff meetings, prayer meetings, Sunday morning services, and

Wednesday night gatherings.

• Meet every-week with the Pastor for oversight, accountability, support, and supervision.

• The intern will be given a weekly stipend of $300 over the course of 10 weeks.

• Free housing will be provided through a church member.

• The intern will be responsible to have a mode of transportation. However, mileage used for ministry purposes will be reimbursed at $0.58 per mile.

• While a youth ministry intern is expected to form meaningful relationships with the teens, it is important that the intern recognize the role to which they have been called and conduct themselves in such a way as to accomplish the relationship of a spiritual mentor rather than a peer. Thus an intern may under no circumstances become involved in a dating relationship with any youth group member. It is recommended that interns never give rides to members of the opposite sex and avoid activities or circumstances that would place

them in a one on one setting with members of the opposite sex. It is important that the intern conduct themselves in such a way as to constantly bring honor to God as well as to never call into question their integrity or motivation.

Specific Summer Intern Assignments:

• Daily pray for the student and children’s ministries, its individuals, and their role in glorifying

God through it.

• Assist in planning and leading Adventure Camp with Shannon Chambers.

• Prepare and give the Bible lesson on Sunday Evenings with the youth during the summer

• Prepare and give the Bible lesson for Children’s Ministry on Sundays.

• Help plan for Children’s ministry Wednesday Night Clubs for the 2019-2020 school year.

• * Note: Responsibilities may be added or changed to fit the giftedness and particular

passions of the intern, as well as to meet unforeseen needs within the ministry.
